Long Term Rehab Can Be The Answer

by Lana Bray

There are a lot of people out there who need some sort of help due to an addiction of some kind. Some of these people have been through the system more than once. Some of them never have, but at the same time they have been using their drug of choice for what seems like a lifetime. For some people, a long term rehab might be the answer.

The regular stint in a home or rehab center is only anywhere from 30 to 90 days. For most people this is just long enough to find out what the centers want from them and then give it to them. It is a fake it until you make it mentality. This is the case because they really do not want to be there in the first place. The people who want to get into a home rarely do.

Not all of the long term rehab centers are for drug addicts either. Some of these places are also for physical rehabilitation as well. There are a lot of people who need physical care and a place that will help them do some routine exercises for their injury. It is often hard for people to do these types of things on their own at home.

There are wound care patients as well who cannot get their wound to heal without assistance either. For example, some diabetics end up getting large wounds that will not heal over long periods of time. After many doctor visits there are some wounds that just do not heal. In these cases sometimes the patient needs some extra help.

They feel they have been fighting the system almost their entire lives and especially now since they started using, that they need to be told what to do so they can get their lives back on track. Hopefully this will bring them back to reality so they can get their lives back on track and stop using the drugs that are ruining their lives.

While on paper this sounds like a great idea, it really does not work. The people who really have a problem and get sent there when they did not choose to go there themselves just will not get anything from such a program. For these drug treatments to actually be successful the patient must want to get better. They must want to change their lives for the better.

A long term rehab will give every body the time they need to actually get into the lessons they are being taught. For them to try and give back and do some service work, which is one of the best things they can all do. The service work is what they claim brings them closer to others and therefore back to reality and able to stay away from the drugs.

This is especially true for those who are forced to go into a center. Those who need treatment might not always know they need it, but at the same time being forced into long term rehab is not the answer either. Everyone who needs help cannot be forced into it and expected to have it work for them. This type of help will work, but the patient needs to want it.
