Then put the news paper into the floor of the place and leave no space, cover the whole area fully. The purpose of this is to catch the dirt that might fall once you remove the damper from the chimney. There should be something to catch the dirt so that you will no more need to repeat the routine again.<br />

The detachment might take time depending on how it was installed, usually they are attached with screws and so you might probably need screw drivers both philip and flat just in case. After that, go to the garbage bin and then mildly shake your hands while holding the item and so that big soot will be removed.<br />

For there are still residues remained in the damper, you will be scraping them using a wire brush. Do not do it in a hard manner for it might scratch the surface, once it will be scratched, its lifespan will weaken. But you are just doing this to prepare the instrument for the next process.<br />

With a gallon of warm water in the bucket, pour the tri sodium and the bleach then shake it thoroughly. To remove the soot totally, you need to dip a brush into the mixture and then scrub the whole thing. Then you can wash it with a clean water. Let it dry with a towel and then return it from its place.<br />

Once you are done, leave it aside and let it dry and then go back to the area. Get the news papers carefully so that no soot will fall and then throw it into the bin. Using a vacuum cleaner, clean the entire area just in case there are still crumbs of ashes left. Or you can use the broom as an alternative.<br />
