Various Types Of Grain Level Indicators

Farmers like other professionals have a variety of tools and facilities that ease their work and ensure better results. These facilities range from the silos used for storing the farm produce to the elevators used for parking the grains to the stores. Silos are made from various materials and in different sizes. In order for farmers to determine the amount of produce in their silos, there are various types of grain level indicators they can use.

Rotary paddle bin indicators are designed with a paddle that rotates on the grains. If the store has some storage space left, the paddle would rotate profusely, which is different from what will happen if the store is full as it would just switch off. By determining the condition of the storage area, farmers can be able to take the appropriate measures.
A tilt switch mercury-free sensor is another essential device. It is usually controlled automatically using a remote control to determine the available storage space in silos. Therefore, the farmer has to move it through his or her silo to know whether it is filled up or not.

The tilt mercury detector comes with a wired control unit or a remote control for controlling it. It is usually designed in such a way that, it would alert the user if the store has some storage space. It also retains the condition and state of the mercury when the store is full to ensure the user would determine what to do concerning the condition of his or her silo.
Mechanical level indicators are made to run using mechanically operated components. It usually comes with a steel ball that depresses the electric switch if the silo is full. In case the silo has some free space, the ball will remain still resting over the electric switch. These detectors are available in various designs, and they are quite affordable.

Cable and weight indicators measure the cable distance as it moves through the store. The measured distance would be sent into control system through a digital communication connection control. The control system would thus evaluate to determine the amount of storage area left within the store.

Ultrasonic continuous level sensors are made to determine the available storage space by measuring the time of flight of the sound energy emitted by the sensor. The technology used in this sensor ensures that it would not come in contact with any material within the storage area. The problem with these sensors is however that, the sound energy may be absorbed by the dust within the silo, which lengthens the sound range more than it should be.
In order for farmers to determine and control the farm produce in their silos, they need to use grain level indicators. Manufacturers create various types of grain sensors which work differently with each being suitable for a particular situations. Before choosing any of these sensors, buyers are advised to know the advantages and drawbacks, they can derive by purchasing and using such sensors.
