Asphalt or concrete walkways, driveways, and pavements serve as convenient means for homeowners to access their houses. The onset of winter on the other hand threatens the benefits provided by the availability of these paved surfaces. When winter begins, many regions in the United States experience snow. It has been the tradition for people to head out with plows in their hand to remove the snow. When in search of heated driveway Denver should be given priority.

There is a lot of hard work involved in plowing snow away. Some of the work can be outright dangerous and demanding physically. To that end, a few solutions to the snow problem have been formulated and are in use in different places. One of the most convenient ways of handling snow problem is the installation of heated driveway systems.

Heated driveway systems are basically snow melting systems that operate on electric power. They heat and melt snow, enabling driveways to stay dry and free of snow, ice and other forms of solid precipitations. However, to save on the amount of electricity used, they are designed in such a manner that they heat only specific parts of driveways. The portions of driveways that are warmed are the ones that have vehicular traffic leading to the house.

Heated driveways are of two major types, that is, electric coil and hydronic heated driveway systems. In the electric coil type of driveway system, metal rods that are heated using electricity are installed under the pavement to heat and melt snow when it forms. These systems can be programmed so that the temperature at which they are automatically turned on or off is set.

Programming the system to automatically go on and off after a specific duration is also possible. The amount of time one wants the system to operate before turning itself off automatically can also be pre-programmed into it in advance. The power output of a single cable can range between 6 and 50 Watts per linear foot. Based on the model of the system, it is possible to attain a temperature of 93.33 degrees Celsius or more.

A few inches of the snow can be melted in every hour by such temperatures. The systems can also be turned on automatically when they detect precipitation of any kind on how they are programmed. Snow cannot form on the surface of the driveway because of the hot temperatures maintained by the system above the pavement. When the system is on, the layer of air above the surface will remain hot up to several inches high.

In hydronic systems, the pavement is installed with PVC tubing that is designed in zigzag. A hot mixture of anti-freeze substances and water circulates through the tubing, enabling the asphalt or concrete to stay considerably warm. This works to ensure there is no snow formation. Hydronic systems are advantageous because they are cost effective for long term usage even though the initial installation costs are high.

There are several advantages that are associated with installing systems for heating pavements. One of the advantages is that they eliminate the need to use shovel and plows to remove snow. Shovels and plows usually cause scraping and chipping to the pavement, leading to damage. Also, the systems do not need any kind of maintenance once they are installed.
