Publishing companies hire people that have a strong grasp of language rules. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and word usage are all needed to be able to properly write or edit works to be published. With the advent of online blogs and news sites, there is a big need for people that have a strong grasp and can work quickly so articles can be put online as fast as possible.<br />

Editorial assistants often work for publishing companies. Their job is to read manuscripts and unpublished material from authors wanting to be published. Some will work in newspapers or magazines. More often there is a need in the online world of news publishing. The job is to be sure that the text communicates well and catch any mistakes before the work is published.<br />

Understanding language and its usage is important in all aspects of the modern world. Communication happens quickly and people must be prepared. The job of linguists is to take communication in business, government, or other areas and help make sure the words are used properly to convey the right meaning.
