We're living in an age where there is no better time to be a beat maker or composer. We can make a beat in the morning and post it for the world to see by the afternoon. However, going from beat maker to beat seller is not easy. It takes some business know how, beat making skills, and persistence in order to make it work. Today, we'll discuss some elements needed to make money off of your beats.

Before we dive in, today's article will focus on 3 key themes that you need to learn in order to go from just a beat maker to a beat seller. In subsequent articles, we'll dive into more specific ideas. By following these 3 principles, you will be well on your way to having a successful beat store.

You need to understand marketing and selling or find someone else that does...period. There is no way around this. In order to make the leap from beat maker to beat seller, you are entering the world of business and no good business succeeds without sound marketing and selling principles. If you aren't a good marketer or seller, defer to the paragraph below on strengths and weaknesses.

Know your strengths and weaknesses. Build your strengths, outsource your weaknesses. You need to know your limits as a beatmaker. If you are abysmal at website development or graphic design, you'll need to shell out the money and outsource those skills to an agency that can do those things for you. Another option is to put your beats on a website that allows producers to sell their beats on there. This means you don't have to worry about marketing and can just focus on beat making. However, the competition will be more competitive because you'll be competing with other producers on one site. On the other hand, if you are really good at something, that is your competitive advantage. Build upon that to your advantage

Be different. The concept of differentiation is an age old marketing principle that still applies to the field of beat making. The internet is flooded with trap beats, and there are a ton of artists who are looking for a sound that is different. By having your own sound or something unique, you'll stand out and will start making a name for yourself. Furthermore, by differentiating yourself, you'll also reduce the competition. People will start looking for your sound instead of the rest of the beats already out there that sound the same.

In today's world, the opportunity is more tremendous than ever to make money as a beat maker. However, your success will be determined by how well you understand some of the principles above. Making money off of beats can be extremely rewarding, however, the financial rewards won't come without effort and some strategy. Follow the principles above and you will be well on your way to generating good income off of beat making.
