Basics About A Virginia Mirror

Virginia mirror stores produces different types of mirrors for use by all people. A mirror is any surface that reflects light rays falling on it. It preserves the characteristics of the original illumination on the surfaces it is reflected on. Other mirrors leave out certain wavelengths, whereas maintaining some in the reflected light. Mirrors keep a good number of the qualities of the source light striking them.

The production of mirrors entails application of reflective layers on suitable substrates. Glass is the most used substrate due to its properties. The properties include hardness, ease of fabrication, rigidity, capability of taking on smooth finishes, and transparency. The back surface of the glass is coated with a reflective layer for protection against damage and corrosion. An optional paint and the coating is applied on for extra protection.

In modern days, mirror substrates are first shaped, cleaned, and polished before coating. The coating is mostly of non-toxic silver or aluminium, which are implemented by a sequence of coatings. The coatings include Tin(II) chloride, silver, chemical activator, copper, and paint. Tin(II) chloride is used because silver does not bong with glass. The activators serve to help the silver/tin to harden. The function of copper is to add durability. Paints provide protection.

In uses requiring high durability or those that are cost-sensitive, mirrors can be made from a single, heavy material. Such materials include polished some metals. In technological applications like laser mirrors, a technique called vacuum deposition is applied in applying the reflective layers onto the mirror. This has the effect of reducing double reflections, refraction, and light absorption. The coats are made from metals such as, gold, silver, or aluminium.

There are many varied types of glass mirrors. The difference lies in the process of manufacturing and reflection type. Major types include aluminium glass, safety glass, silkscreen printed glass, silver glass, and decorative glass mirrors. The aluminium glass type is made from float glass which is manufactured using a process called vacuum coating. In this process aluminium powder is sputtered onto the glass inside a vacuum chamber. The aluminium is then coated with two or more other layers of water resistant paints.

The safety glass version is produced by sticking special protective layer onto the rear side of silver glass mirrors. It is purposed to prevent injuries in the event of mirror breakage. They are applied on furniture, commercial shelves, public areas, glass walls, and door. Silkscreen printed glass models are made using inorganic color ink. The color ink is used to print patterns onto the glass through a special screen. They come in different shapes, colors, and patterns.

A silver glass model is the ordinary mirror. It is coated with silver and creates images by reflection. Shapes of reflecting surfaces include plane, concave, convex, spherical concave, and spherical convex. Each of them produces different characteristics in the image.
They get application in several fields including surveillance, car industry, display technologies, and medicine among many others. The costs differ according to the materials used, use, and the process of production.
