Saving Paper

by Laura Brown

Plenty of papers can be manufactured but the number of trees in our environment takes years or decades to be a full-grown one. Since cutting down some trees would be the first step on creating some papers, this could mean that the more papers that people need, the more trees will be cut down by different paper manufacturing companies. If this happens continuously, the planet together with many lives of people will be put at risk. To prevent this from happening, joining advocacies and reduction of paper usages are some of the actions that humans have to take.

Substitute for Paper

Reduction on the use of paper would be a way to save it. If you forget using paper for a day, a week, a month of a year, you would be saving thousands of trees from being cut down. Before you use the paper for writing your thoughts, plans and whatever feelings that you have in your mind, think whether it would be much easier, innovative and environment-friendly to make use of some alternatives which were brought by technology. Shout out whatever you want in Facebook or you can also send some messages to your friends or business partners through email, Skype and SMS. Credit card and utility bills can now be sent to your e-mail. All the above are sure ways to save tons of paper.

You can also replace papers with cloth and reusable items. Think of every usage of paper in your household and research on their counterpart. Try making use of rags instead of paper towels, handkerchief instead of tissue, washable dishes such as plates made of porcelain instead of paper plates. Practice surviving the day without the use of paper and see the great difference on the amount of your daily or weekly garbage.

Recycling and Advocacies

Used papers can be recycled and used again for same or different purpose. Some companies are buying those via different junkshops, run different process until the old paper becomes a new one again. This is much better instead of getting buried or burned. As an individual, you just have to make the most out of it before it ends up on the trash can or junkshops. Making use of the back portion, using it for wrapping and for decoration can help preserve whatever remains of mother Earth.

Many pro-environment groups have sprouted nowadays and are taking some actions on conserving mother earth. This includes their campaign for a paperless environment. You can join their advocacies and campaign or support them through the use of social media. Share their pages, pictures, messages, videos and other posts. You can also inform your family about this and start making a change in your own home.
