<h2 class = 'uawtitle'>Fire Extinguishers Chicago In The 1871 Disaster</h2><br />

<div class='uawarticle'>Mrs O'Leary's cow has a lot to answer for. She is anecdotally credited with starting the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Although the devices had been invented as far back as 200 B. C., there weren't enough fire extinguishers Chicago to keep what started out as a small flareup in a barn from wiping out the entire city. Granted the earliest fire extinguishers were nothing more than bucket chains invented in Rome, which would have been ineffective once the blaze really kicked off. It burned for two days until rain helped to put it out.<br />

Chicagoland, the name for the greater metropolitan area incorporating parts of Indiana and Wisconsin, is situated on the soutwest shore of Lake Michigan. It is the third most important urban conurbation in the United States, following only Los Angeles in California and New York, New York.<br />

Incorporated in 1837, the city continued to develop until the 1871 blaze demolished all but a few of the existing buildings. The area is very popular as a fictional setting, appearing in books, movies, computer games and television series. It has numerous nicknames, among them "Second City" and "the Windy City."<br />
<br />
o'Hare International Airport, 20 miles northwest of the city center, is separated from the main metropolitan area by an area of green belt known as Catherine Chevalier Woods. Interstate 90 connects the airport to the main city. Nearly half of the airport's passengers are carried on a single national airline. Owned by the city itself, the airport is the main hub for two national airlines in addition to Air Force One, the airliner of the US President.<br />

Perhaps ironically, one of a very limited number of structures left standing following the Great Fire was the Chicago Water Tower. The tower is composed of Joliet limestone, somewhat yellow in color and described by British author, Oscar Wilde, as a somewhat clumsy structure to which it looked like someone had stuck a large number of pepper pots. Designed by William W. Boyington and built in 1869, the tower's castle-like appearance formed the inspiration for a family of restaurants.<br />

In a city of that size, there are, as you would expect, lots of things to see and do. Take a river boat tour sponsored by the Chicago Architecture Foundation to admire the multiple building styles. Try and imagine how many <A href="http://certifiedfireextinguisherschicago.com">fire extinguishers Chicago</A> has in all those lovely buildings. There must be almost a hundred thousand. Don't forget the John Hancock Observatory and the Willis Tower Skydeck.<br />

There was another grand city that endured a major conflagration that went down in history. London, England, also experienced a great fire in 1666. Here, squirts were employed to help put out the flames. These consisted of a nozzle that was placed into a source of water. Approximately a quart of water was drawn into the device via a plunger. The squirt was then pointed at the flames and the plunger was pushed to expel the contents.<br />
<br />
With its position on Lake Michigan, breathtaking architecture, fabulous shopping opportunities and things to see, this is a great place to live or visit. Rest assured that the city has learned its lesson and there are enough fire extinguishers Chicago to keep the city safe.<br />
