What The Heck Is NLP?

by Lan Thomas

Neuro-linguistic Programming or NLP is the study of how the human mind functions to communicate. Communication here is in the quest to achieving personal goals that are needed as the skill sets in life. The process entails the formation of ideas and articulating them for personal gains.

NLP shapes an individual behavior especially that learned through what has been experienced. There has been a lot of controversy trying to explain this concept because people tend to associate it to both success and failures in life. The subject entails a close balance between success and failure where success is seen to originate from copying others.

The study of NLP is as confusing as the human brain and the more one delves into the subject, the more they unravel complicated issues. This is a method humans use to choose what is appealing and that which is not helpful in ones life. It is the middle ground between what one believes as beneficial and what others have embraced leading to making critical but independent choices.

This explains why NLP is seen as the experiential part of human nature that is harnessed to produce the desired results. A world class soccer player for instance can be taken as the measure of what is humanly possible and an asset that can be replicated to achieve the same goals by others.

It is what has been internalized which NLP looks at and it negates the process of achieving ones status. To be come great one has to go through a process of training, learning or imitating. It makes us lazy and does love shortcuts in life. The brain makes an individual yearn for the finest things in life without putting too much effort in to achieving them thus the act of replacing what has been done becomes the norm.

The NLP processes help in developing persuasion skills in humans, how people work or function and deal with the issues of counseling, coaching and therapies as well. It also helps in creating friendships even if it is for convenience sake. When our mind is programmed, we exude confidence and are able to build short term relationships with people next to us albeit for a short period. Speeches are born of the confidence that NLP helps us built and plays a major role in team participation and individual realization of life long goals.

NLP is enables one with the ability to induce trance which evokes imagination based on emotion leading to a better understanding of how humans act the way they do and why. This is the ability to influence others by using their values to make their own decisions through the use of language in a more effective way. This process of influencing is I actual sense a method of programming the human mind.

The study or essence of NLP does not control the mind but acts as an enable to make people make decisions according to the situation they are in. this is the therapeutic change that takes part so fast that it is translated to verbal actions which determine how people communicate.
