Or, maybe you know the type of doll she wants, but it's very expensive and need some alternatives that might serve as alternatives. Calm down, Dad. You've come to the right site.<br />

I have two daughters and no sons, so I know a thing or two about dolls. But, to be honest, I learned everything I know in the last six months. That's because I opened up a doll store online. All the research I have done in order to write the articles is making me kind of an expert on dolls. So, I though I'd pass on some of my newly acquired knowledge on to some other guys who might be in a pinch during this season.<br />

First, you need to understand that there are many different categories of dolls. Many of them wouldn't interest a young girl, so we'll only focus on the few that would. The categories are baby play dolls, young girl dolls and fashion dolls.<br />
<br />
Baby dolls are basically plastic or vinyl dolls that look like little babies. You know, the type that a small girls would feed with a bottle or push around in a buggy. These dolls generally appeal to very little children, probably under ten years of age. Many of these dolls look very much like they have forever. But, some of them have changed. These days, the trend is more towards baby dolls that look realistic. And I mean, realistic. So, real that some of them are even ugly like some newborns can be ugly. These are known as newborn dolls, real baby dolls, or lifelike baby dolls.<br />
<br />
The next category, young girls dolls are typically 18 inches tall. Some brands are smaller, though. These dolls are typically sweet-looking, young girls that are dressed in some type of theme. Often times they are period dolls representing young girls from a past era. The most popular are American Girls dolls. These dolls are great, but are pretty pricey. Fortunately, there are some knock off brands that are still high quality. You may look into Our Generation dolls or Adora dolls. All come with their own accessories and clothes. And, since they're all the same size, everything is inter-changeable.<br />
<br />
The last type, fashion dolls are dolls that tend to look overly feminine, some say sexual. They are Barbie dolls and the like. They look like young women with grossly exaggerated features. Girls like to dress them up in various outfits. So, if you go this route, make sure to buy extra outfits and accessories.<br />

I hope this overview gives you a starting point in your search for the perfect doll for your girl. All these dolls are available in stores and online in abundance.<br />
