You may find your pool getting dirty as soon as it is cleaned. Keeping it clean does not have to be such a daunting task. While pools are made of different materials, they all share one common trait which is the need for regular maintenance. No matter how many times you call in the experts, you must do a few things to ensure that it remains clean between the visits. Here are few tips shared by a pool service company Mount Royal QC.

Take a skimming basket and filter off floating debris in your facility. This is a net basket with a handle that you pass across your facility. Note that, if not removed, the debris sinks which makes it hard for you to retrieve it. Floating insects are also removed from the water surface.

Vacuuming the floor is also a necessity which should be done at least bi-monthly. This keeps water clean and consumes less chemicals. The walls also require brushing so that algae would not grow on them. A soft brush should be used to clean a fiberglass pool as a hard one may scratch the surfaces.

Every time you drain the water, make sure that you clean the filter. This is because, it may have trapped sand and other large debris. This can be cleaned after every two weeks for better filtration of dirt in the facility. The filter cleaning method depends on the type of the facility.

The heaters do not need repair every now and then. However, they should be checked for any problems at least twice a year. There are times clogged by calcium deposits. These are best removed by an electrical engineer.

Water gets lost during the swimming season by splashing, evaporation and when swimmers exit the facility. As such, you should keep checking the changes in water levels each week. If the water falls below the skimmer level, make sure you refill it.

The water PH level should also be checked for the health of the facility. In a scale of zero to fourteen in PH level, the ideal PH should be between seven and eight. One can use the PH tester to measure it. If the PH is below the ideal level, add alkaline solutions and if higher, add acidic solutions.

If you live in areas where temperatures go below the freezing point, there is need to ensure that the installations are not damaged by the freezing water. Freezing water can crack pump pipes and the drainage system. To prevent this, you can blow air out of the piping system by the use of a compressor. You can also use nontoxic antifreeze specifically for pools. The pump and the heater should also be disconnected.

Ammonia and nitrogen are some organic contaminants that build up after regular use of the facility. When they mix with chlorine, they produce a bad smell. Super chlorinate can effectively eliminate the smell in your facility. This is referred to shocking the pool. More chlorine removes the smell. Shocking should be done at least once a week as indicated in the manual.
