<div class='uawarticle'>The brouhaha over the CFPB has only gotten worse in recent weeks. The latest log on the fire is the credit card hotline which the CFPB is supposed to be opening soon. Consumers could call this hotline to register a complaint, and the agency would compile the data it receives in a database which it would use when and if it decided to act on a complaint. Banks and credit card issuers are concerned with information be-ing inaccurate and not getting used in the correct manner. This would help keep all payday advance information private.<br />

<strong>Banks and card corporations want to avoid crowd-sourced penalties</strong><br />

A lot of debate was put to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau before the credit card hot-line was considered. This hotline would make it so consumers can complain about charge card issuers and practices they have, Daily Finance reports. Consumers can call in to report abuse, and that information would be disseminated by the Bureau to the appropriate state regulatory bodies. Basi-cally, the complaint system would be crowdsourcing; the information would come straight from the people. However, the grievances would also go straight to government officials who could potentially fine card issuers without vetting the complaints. Most banks and card is-suers are hoping to keep the grievances private. That means the data would stay between the financial institution, the government agency and the person who complained instead of having a public database.<br />

<strong>Ways to stop data from flowing</strong><br />

The flow of data can hurt banks a lot, which is they are fighting for private data. Right now, the complaint line will start with the Consumer Financial Protection Bu-reau. This is expected to take place on July 21. In its current for-mat, everyone could access the complaint data and see every-thing said about every credit card issuer that it tracks. It is very important to consider that people will always complain about fees no matter what, although banks and card issuers may just want the data private so nobody will know what their dishonest practices are. A way to get infor-mation straight from the public is certainly admirable, however without restraint it can very easily be used inappropriately.<br />

<strong>How the future is looking</strong><br />

The CFPB will have authority to regulate, to some extent, vir-tually all manners of consumer finance like credit cards, mortgages, payday loans, debit cards and so on. One organization with all that control has started debate. Congress has fought about it continuously. Reuters states that there were three bills introduced to limit the bureau recently including two on the director. One of these would give a five member panel control instead of one director while another would keep the CFPB from having power until a director is assigned. Congressional Republicans have made it clear they're not in favor of Elizabeth Warren, the adviser to the White House who is assisting in getting the bureau ready for operation. It doesn't seem likely that it will begin operations in July as sched-uled.<br />
