The Three Rock Formation Type

by Walter Murphy

One of the most important mineral that the earth possess would be rocks. These things are pretty much useful in holding the planet together and strongly as possible. However aside from that, it is proven that these minerals do have a lot of potential in creating many possible stuff which people find useful. Because of that, there happens to be mining where they rock ripper to go and grab ample amount of these things to make use of it.

But they just cannot get any rocks they see because depending on their needs, there are three main rock formation on the layers of ground. All three has its distinct character, appearance and formation process. They have different uses and you cannot expect these three to be of the same kind generally.

Sedimentary rocks are those which has been formed from particles found on sand, pebbles, shell and other fragment material there is. If you combine all these particles together, they are referred to as the sediment. However, to develop these kinds of materials, there needs to be a long period of time needed.

Well, that is what you can expect on a formation of sediment only out or sand, pebbles shell and several fragmented materials you known of. Even after several years of development, its hardness is never enough to make it more durable than it is. That is the best development it can do anyway.

Though even though it is known to be something weak, it can be special on its own way too. These are the only ones which you can find fossils in. That may be noticed of as the sediment breaks down exposing everything inside. A few example of these will be a limestone and a conglomerate kinds of sediment.

Then next are metamorphic which are often formed right at the lower surfaces of the earth. It develops through a phase called metamorphoses and is changing due to the heat and pressure they have been exposed to underneath. This makes them shiny in appearance like a crystal or minerals.

They do grow over time but in a slow phase and would take time. This is somehow what most miners are after of since these things are precious and are great use for adornments like jewelries or even materials for building structures. Some example of which is marble and gneiss which are highly sought after.

Last you have the igneous rocks which are way down below the surface wherein its hot. This is made up of magma which has harden through time and have cool down already. It does not really look quite close with a crystal but this is somehow shiny in appearance. You may see these rocks only underneath but they can casually come out.

When that happens, you usually see them out of the volcanoes in a form of lava. Lava are normally known to cool down quickly but they do not come in crystal formation at all. They do have a shiny glasslike look though. However, because of the sudden eruption, they do come in gas bubbles which are trapped right inside the rock as the cooling process happens. That is the reason of tiny holes and spaces in it. Some of its type are basalt and obsidian.
