About Global Warming

by Joshua Darden

Global warming is the increase of the temperature of earth's lower atmosphere resulting to a climatic change that was caused by the increase of greenhouse gases. There are two types of greenhouse gases. One of those is the natural greenhouse gas such as carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane. On the other hand are man-made gases such as perfluorocarbons (PFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) that were generated from human industrial factories.

About Greenhouse Effects

Greenhouse effect keeps us alive as it traps energy from the sun to keep the Earth warm making it possible for life to exist. If this was gone, living on this planet would be impossible as Earth would turn to a huge ice ball. This is what makes it important but if the greenhouse effect goes beyond normal like what is happening right now, it will cause global warming which puts the lives of all living things at risk.

What causes the greenhouse effect to trap excess heat is mostly man-made. Some of those are the burning of fossil fuels, smoke belching, gases emitted by factory chimneys and some agricultural activities. These produce a great amount of harmful gases that are being trapped in the atmosphere by greenhouse effect. It will then result to a drastic climate change or catastrophes such as floods, drought, wildlife extinction, typhoon, epidemic diseases and a depressed economy.

How to Prevent Global Warming

The increase of atmospheric temperature had greatly affected the environment and the life forms that reside on it. Different nations are now becoming pro-active to prevent global warming and its effects and all is encouraged to take part in every advocacies or program. Reduction of greenhouse gases usage, developing of renewable energy, improving of energy efficiency, reduction of gasoline consumption for transportation, reservation of forest, slowing down of population growth and eliminating CFC'S (chlorofluorocarbons) are some of the ways that people can do to help.

Everyone should take part in restoring their planet as this is their only home. Planting and growing of trees, making use of energy efficient appliances, doing the easy task of unplugging electronics when not in use, recycling and a major change in transportation habits are some of the simple things that people can do in their busy life to help preserve mother earth. Spreading the word through social media and other forms of communication can be a big help towards awareness and change. Informing your friends, family and relatives can be a start of winning the war against the harmful effects of global warming.
