Stages In Waste Water Purification System

With the daily ever growing urbanization, you will agree with me that the impact on the environment is very adverse due to sewage disposal. Sewage can be from the households or the industries in towns. You will not be comfortable to observe dirty water released into you area of locality if it has not been properly treated or purified. Those that contains pollutants needs to be treated so that its quality can be improved. This means that its negative impact on the environment is so much reduced. By so doing we will be promoting biodiversity and preventing health hazards. To be precise, we ought to have a waste water purification system that is very efficient.

In the procedure of purifying the already polluted water, various steps are employed. They utilize chemical agents, living organisms and physical agents to remove the harmful agents already present in water.

The initial stage is the pretreatment stage. This involves removal of any pollutant that can possibly be removed. Usually they are the large objects which can be collected through sieving. This can be comfortably be achieved by use of mesh or screens that act as barriers along pathway of flowing polluted water. The removed large objects are then taken to the incinerator for complete destruction. In case they are not removed, they will get into the pipes and cause blockage. Not only is sand, broken glass or stones collected at this point but also fat and grease. Besides, the flow is equalized so that it does not collapse the whole system.

To add, primary treatment stage involves removal of sediments settling down at the sedimentation tanks. Floating objects are also removed through skimming. Clarifiers are also useful at this stage. The resulting material that has been collected can be used in soap making process.

Besides, is the secondary treatment stage. Majorly, those contaminants that are cleared in this stage are those from living organisms such as fecal matter. Most of them are already dissolved but only a few can be in suspended. Living organisms are reared in water and are made to eat up the matter thus promoting decomposition. It saves on space.

Fourthly, is tertiary treatment. This step can be considered as the last one in most of the systems. However, other systems have an additional step. The effluent is made better and quality is improved before being released into the surrounding locality. Filtration of very fine particles occurs to remove toxins thus the resulting liquid is clean. Besides, nitrogen and phosphorus are removed.

In the final part of this step, this liquid is taken into ponds and dams. Here, the biological agents assist in removing the remaining pollutant matter. Then this water can be used for irrigation purposes. Recharging the ground water sources can be another use.

To end with is stage of fourth treatment. It has already been employed into a number of systems after detailed research on it. It removes those chemicals that rot at slow pace. In this stage also, the odor coming from the purification process needs to be effectively controlled.
