When you are at mid forest it is convenient to take close snap of a single tree. Go to the trunk and cover some texture in your photo range.

Keep some artificially made objects like statues, benches etc in your coverage. But considering the color is very important.

Go to leaves

It is better to give attention to leaves and canopy area in a clear sky. The contrasting ability between blue and green is pretty good. So, you can go for more details in leaves. Be conscious to avoid bug chewed leaves. When you need to get closer to the object, use micro lenses of 100 mm of diameter. On the other hand when you need more interpretation it is convenient to use an extension tube or coupling rings on two lenses.

Dont use thick leaves or leaves of the same pattern. For this your photo looks gloomy and repetitive.
