The current economic environment need not mean doom and gloom for your small business. Looking after your customers has to be a priority in this economy so you can be sure your business continues to succeed. Do you know why businesses fail? Knowing this can help you put into place procedures and structures so you don't end up in the same category. Real success comes from not only acquiring customers but from having excellent rates of customer retention.

In this economic environment, small businesses are especially vulnerable. The reason is that they don't usually have the financial support or diversity of business in place to withstand economic difficulties. You need to be sure you have good financial support, excellent support staff and stable and reliable systems so you can continue to succeed. Most importantly, you need to look after your customers.

It is widely know that it costs a lot more to get a new customer than it does to keep an existing one. How much of your marketing resources are spent on making sure your existing customers stay with you? The reason for the difference in cost is that there is less risk for a customer spending with you again. They know how they will be treated, if they will get a fair price and if they will get their goods in a timely manner. Customers can leave for a number of reasons - neglect, receiving a better offer elsewhere or they had a bad experience. You can rectify two of those easily - keep in contact with customers and if they consider you when they are considering your competitor point out that they have already had a good experience with you - you don't know what you're going to get with someone else.

Don't send them generic information either. You need a way of segregating your database so that customers get the information that is important to them. This has an effect of making them feel valued and unique thus increasing customer loyalty and increasing the likelihood of repurchase. By keeping a customer you can build up a valued, loyal, customer base that you can rely upon to serve your business now and into the future.

Finally, get moving making certain your customer database is current. Databases tend to escape control when not regularly maintained. Failure to accomplish this is a reason companies fail since it makes getting in contact with nearly all clients impossible. If whatsoever possible, allocate an worker member with this full-time until it's current and functional. Record as much particulars as you possibly can to ensure that one can market better. Ensure it is easy to segregate and rehearse to obtain the best use from this. Remember, you don't have a business without any customers so you should take proper care of them to be sure the sturdiness of the business.
