Carry a list of important toll-free numbers, and keep it separate from your wallet. Make a list of the toll-free contact numbers for your bank, as well as your credit cards. Keep it separate from your wallet, so if it becomes lost or stolen you can quickly and easily notify the institutions and get the cards canceled.<br />

If you are planning on traveling in the coming months, keep your eye out for promotional deals online through various discount travel sites. By signing up through a discount site and entering desired travel destinations and dates into their database, you will receive emails that will alert you when there are especially low prices or good promotions to your next intended destination.<br />

Most airlines have free programs where you can receive calls or text messages if your flight changes, which will come in handy if you are running late or experiencing difficulties with travel arrangements. When traveling, it is important to remember to pack only what you need. This rule is most applicable to trips by air, as luggage fees are much higher now than they previously were. Most airports will sell anything you might not have room for and major surrounding cities should as well.<br />

If you will be driving to your destination, fill a family member or friend in on your destination and planned route to get there. If something were to happen to you while driving, this person would be able to alert officials of your intended destination and the roads you would have been traveling on.<br />

Never keep all your spending methods (cash, credit cards, checks, etc) in one place. If that item is lost or stolen, you will still need access to money. Keep the items you'll need for the day in a wallet or purse and store the rest in a secure place, like a piece of luggage with a lock or a false bottom.<br />

If you travel with children, have plenty of easy to eat snacks on hand. Children often get bored and cranky when traveling, especially on boring stretches of road. This is magnified if they are hungry, so pack a snack pack that includes easy to eat foods such as pre-sliced fruit, juice boxes or small bags of cereal.<br />

If you are going to be traveling abroad and there are perhaps dangers in the country that you are traveling to, register your stay with the US Embassy a few weeks before you arrive. Let the US Embassy know when you arrive there in that country. This way they will know there are US citizens there and if something happens they can help.<br />

It can be difficult to eat healhty while traveling. Skip the roadside restaurants, but instead bring your own food. Pack your cooler with fruits and vegetables, crackers, yogurt, granola bars and cheese. These things are easy to pack, and easy to eat while on the road. Don't forget the water, it will help you stay hydrated as you drive.<br />

As was stated in the beginning of the article, knowing how to blend in with the local culture is crucial to not being a victim of crime. Criminals prey on tourists, but if you apply the advice from this article the chances of you becoming a victim of crime are much less.<br />
